They Came by Sea
Cornelius O'Loughlin, Ellen O'Loughlin*, John O'Loughlin, his wife Mary O'Loughlin and their infant son Patrick left Cobh, County Cork Ireland 9 November 1841 and arrived at Port Phillip in the Colony of Victoria on .17 February 1842. They were bounty immigrants under the sponsorship of J. B. Were of Melbourne.

It is noteworthy to observe the name of J.B. Were as having been the "sponsor" of those who immigrated. The firm is still in existence but perhaps conducting a different type of business.
Most of family of Ann Barry (who later married Cornelius O'Loughlin) departed London September 22nd 1850 and arrived at Port Adelaide aboard "The Ascendant", South Australia on 15th January 1851

* There has been no trace of Ellen O'Loughlin shown on the shipping list. Ellen remains a mystery. Speculation poses the possibility that she was a sister of Cornelius and John or perhaps the first wife of Cornelius in view of Cornelius being shown as a widow on the certificate of his marriage to Ann. If she was his first wife her death would have occurred between 1842 and 18553 either in the Colony of Victoria or the Colony of South Australia.
